Brian Simmons
According to Brian Simmons’ official bio, with his wife Candice and their three children, he spent nearly eight years in the tropical rain forest of the Darien Province of Panama as a church planter, translator, and consultant. After their ministry in the jungle, Brian was instrumental in planting a thriving church in New England (U.S.), and now travels full-time as a speaker and Bible teacher. He is also the lead translator for The Passion Translation Project.
However, Simmons is prominent in the NAR and the Passion Translation should be avoided as the following information demonstrates:
In this clip (https://www.facebook.com/ibetheltv/videos/10154214001295930/) Brian Simmons discusses being “commissioned” by God to translate the Bible. He says the Lord audibly spoke to him and said, “I’m going to send revival to America and you’re going to be a part of it. And, you’re going to bring a word to the nations.”
At the website (https://www.thepassiontranslation.com/about-the-tpt/) for this translation we read: “The Passion Translation is a new, heart-level translation that expresses God’s fiery heart of love to this generation using Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic manuscripts, merging the emotion and life-changing truth of God’s Word. So why another translation? Many wonderful versions of our Bible now grace our bookshelves, bookstores, software programs, even apps on our phones. So why add one more? The reason is simple: God longs to have his Word expressed in every language in a way that unlocks the passion of his heart. The goal of this work is to trigger inside every reader an overwhelming response to the truth of the Bible, revealing the deep mysteries of the Scriptures in the love language of God, the language of the heart. If you’re hungry for God and want to know him on a deeper level, The Passion Translation will help you encounter God’s heart and discover what he has for your life.” However, this translation has many changes that steer people toward the beliefs of the NAR.
In an article entitled “The Bible Is Our Standard” (https://elijahlist.com/words/display_word.html?ID=24690), published on Dec. 6, Brian Simmons makes the following statements:
“The importance of Scripture cannot be overstated. We find truth within its pages, truth that does not change over time or diminish. The glory of God radiates from the living words of Scripture. They give us the ancient standard. If we model our faith on "I think so" and new claims, our faith will not be the faith that Christ gave the world. On the other hand, if our faith is what the writings of the prophets and apostles teach, we will have a God-breathed and truly powerful faith for our salvation.”
Except that as most readers already know, the Passion Translation takes a great number of liberties with God’s Word, so he obviously doesn’t truly believe the “Bible is our standard.”
Here are two examples of him adding to, and misrepresenting, the text:
1) Gal. 6:6 KJV – “Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.”
Passion – “And those who are taught the Word will receive an impartation from their teacher; a sharing of wealth takes place between them.” However, the word impartation is a mainstay in the NAR theology. Such “impartations” are often conferred on church members by official apostles or prophets in the NAR hierarchy.
2) Proverbs 8:1-3, 6 KJV – “Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths. She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors. Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.”
Passion – “Can’t you hear the voice of Wisdom? From the top of the mountains of influence she speaks into the gateways of the glorious city. At the place where pathways merge, at the entrance of every portal, there she stands, ready to impart understanding, shouting aloud to all who enter, preaching her sermon to those who will listen. The meaning of my words will release within you revelation for you to reign in life. My lyrics will empower you to live by what is right.”
So, we have the phrase “mountains of influence” which is specifically meant to give credence to the 7MM teaching that asserts believers will take over the seven mountains or spheres of society and by doing so will ultimately “Christianize” such. Then, we have gateways, portal, impart, release revelation, reign in life, and empower, all of which are NAR phrases.
